Four Smaller Charges Instead of One Larger One

Splitting a yearly cost across quarters is not a trick. Some owners genuinely run their books better that way, and a company offering the option is serving a real preference. The cadence is stated openly, the service does what Illinois requires of an agent, and there is no dishonesty in the arrangement.

The problem is not the billing. It is what quarterly billing does to a comparison page.

Annualize It, Then Compare

Swyft Filings asks $149 for registered agent service, every quarter. Multiply by four and you land near $596 a year, and we found no separate opening discount, so that is the first year as well as the fifth.

Every competing rate you will read for Illinois is quoted per year. Put $149 in a column beside $125 and $99 and it looks like a middle option. Put $596 there instead and it becomes the most expensive entry by a distance, for work the state defines the same way no matter who performs it. The figure is not concealed. It is quoted in a unit that flatters it, and the conversion is left to the reader.

What Illinois Would Do With $497

The annual difference is roughly $497. Worth seeing what that buys from the state itself, because Illinois is inexpensive to comply with and expensive to ignore.

Your LLC owes one recurring filing: the annual report at $75, due before the first of your anniversary month, with a window opening 60 days ahead. Replacing your registered agent costs $25 whenever the mood takes you. So one year of the gap between these columns would fund six annual reports and still leave enough for an agent change on top.

What the state charges for inattention is a different story. A report 60 days past due picks up $100. At 180 days delinquent the Secretary of State starts administrative dissolution under 805 ILCS 180/35-25, which means unwinding a perfectly healthy business over a piece of paper. That is the outcome an agent is really insuring you against, and it is not a function of what you paid.
