The asking price is $125 a year for the agent role, and it holds at every membership level. No cheaper first term. No quiet increase at renewal. In a category where a discounted opening year is close to the default, one number that refuses to change deserves acknowledgment before anything critical gets said.

Two Buyers, Two Verdicts

Their actual business is a legal services subscription. Contract templates, e-signature, consultations with attorneys, a platform built for regular use. Registered agent service is one line inside that package rather than the point of it.

If you open the platform: drafting agreements, storing signed copies, putting questions to a lawyer a few times a year. Then $125 is fair for an agent tucked inside a tool you already get value from, and the bundle works as intended.

If you only need the agent: an Illinois street address that receives service of process, and someone who tells you the same day it happens. Then most of what you are buying is a shelf of documents you will never take down, and $125 is buying storage.

The $156 gap across six years is the smaller half of the story. The middle row is the bigger half, because it poses a question you can answer honestly in about five seconds: when did you last open a contract template?

One Illinois Detail Worth Knowing First

Before you compare providers on price, check that each one actually satisfies the state. Illinois requires the registered office on your record to be the same street address the agent uses for its own business, and a post office box standing alone will not be accepted. Nor may your LLC appoint itself, a route some other states leave open.

That rules out the cheapest imaginable arrangement, which is naming yourself and using your kitchen table. In Illinois you are hiring somebody regardless. Given that, the sensible questions are what the seat costs each year, how fast a delivered summons reaches you, and whether you are also funding a legal library you did not ask for.
