Ask What Year Two Costs Before You Order Year One

Year One at Zero, With No Catch We Could Find

A full year of agent service comes at no cost inside Inc Authority's formation packages. We went looking for the string attached, a setup fee, a shortened term, a penalty for leaving early, and came up empty. For a brand-new Illinois LLC that removes one mandatory line from the launch budget, and it is a good offer on its own terms.

Year Two Has No Number

Here is what we could not find in July 2026, reading their own published material: the annual renewal rate. Not in the package tiers. Not in the frequently asked questions. Not on the home page. The pattern points to a figure disclosed at checkout or over the phone.

We will not invent it. A guessed renewal would wreck the one thing this page actually argues, which is that a published price beats a hidden one. That argument holds with no number at all:

• Your Illinois LLC has to keep an agent in place throughout its life on the state register.
• What the service costs you is therefore the renewal rate, not the intro rate.
• A renewal you cannot read before ordering is a comparison you cannot complete.

The Question to Ask, Word for Word

Before placing any order, get this answered in writing: what will registered agent service cost per year once the free year ends, and does that rate change afterward? If an answer comes back and it satisfies you, buy from Inc Authority and enjoy the free year. If the answer only appears at checkout, that itself tells you something about the years to come.

The one thing not to do is order first and ask later. Formation is precisely the moment you are least inclined to argue about a recurring charge, which is why the free year sits where it does.

What We Publish

And $99 is not the market minimum. BetterLegal lists $90. Ours belongs among the lowest published annual figures for an Illinois agent, with the difference that both of our years are in print, which is the whole point of this page.

Inc Authority Out, New Illinois Agent In

If the renewal quote eventually disappoints you, correcting it is cheap. Illinois moves an agent with Form LLC-1.36/1.37, the short change of agent statement, at a $25 fee, handled by the Limited Liability Division at the Secretary of State's business filings arm. Give it your company name and file number, the outgoing agent and office, the incoming agent and office, and expect the public record to catch up within several business days.

Sequence is the only rule that really matters. Have the new agent hired before the form goes in, because the state wants a name in the incoming slot, and a chair left empty for 60 days after an agent's notice draws a $100 penalty. Switch properly and that penalty is something that happens to other people.

Why an Illinois Agent Earns the Fee

Illinois does not remind you about the annual report on a schedule everyone shares. Form LLC-50.1 costs $75 and falls due before the first of your company's own anniversary month, with the filing window opening 60 days earlier, and the state publishes no single date for the whole class of LLCs. Miss it by 60 days and $100 is added. There is also a filing quirk that catches larger companies: the online system accepts LLCs with eight members or fewer, so a bigger roster, a power of attorney signature, or a reinstatement forces the paper form and the mail.

An agent tracking that date protects you from a penalty larger than its own annual fee. An agent whose annual fee is unpublished is asking you to trust a number you have not seen. Those are not equally comfortable positions to be in.
